My new question is: can anyone read tex tan serial numbers? The number is 952T 83-80969. I think it was a good deal - the saddle, a no-name breast collar, headstall & a set of leather buddy stirrups for $170. I plan on giving it a through cleaning & then take it to my saddle guy to have it oiled. Before you do anything make sure the leather is not hard and cracked. So you might have $500.00 in the saddle and it might be worth $600.00 after repairs. Another $200.00 for relining, and hope the stirrup leathers don't need replacing. It going to cost $75.00 - $100.00 for a complete cleaning and oil. In the 60's they moved the numbers from back of the cantle to the inside stirrup leather near the stirrup. The first set of numbers is the model number, the second set is the month and year it was made, and the last set is the serial number. The numbers you posted are of great help, they tell the whole story. The stamp behind the cantle looks like this: 1079 557-38482. Originally I was told it was a Bully Good - (is that correct - is there such a model?) I have sent them a request for information - but have yet to receive a reply.
